O-week is undoubtedly the greatest time in a university student’s life.  Much like a University student, with a lazy attitude and constant search for a party, it could be argued that in the life of Touch UM, the O-week of 2009 was the greatest of all time.

The renewed passion for the club after a period of somewhat stagnation saw the club on the campaign known as Recruit and Root.  This campaign was very much the brainchild of Michelle Motteram who went about planning the campaign from the beginning of her tenure on the committee of the revitalized club.  The campaign was a bombardment of visual pleasures along with the hospitality of many of the committee members using their powers of persuasion to attract 1st years to the club.  These powers of persuasion were assisted with a couple of men in lycra shorts and some heavy gangster beats, the quickest and most direct way to the heart of 1st years.

The recruitment drive then continued in the 1st week of university with the same strategy to be implemented. The target however was different.  Our aim was to attract member of the remaining university population: 2nd years, 3rd years, Lecturers, Tutors, Masters, Student and the list goes on.  The carnival atmosphere continued throughout this week and assisted us in recruiting another group of members to arguably the most attractive sports club at the University of Melbourne.

In total the club attracted a staggering, 100 members over the 1 week we recruited at the University. Congratulations to Michelle Motteram, everyone on the committee and anyone else at the club who assisted in the growth of the club over this week.
