Touch UM

The Australian University Games will be held this year at the Gold Coast from the 27th September to the 2nd of October. For those who have not yet been, it is more or less the most fun you can have in a single week while studying, and is for many people the only reason they continue to study.

Due to the overwhelming numbers of eligible players we will be holding trials this year. Changes to the rules set by AUS this year mean we can only take three teams away, one Mens, one Womens and one Mixed.

Mixed: At Touch UM we traditionally stack our mixed team and so will be selecting 6 boys and 5-6 girls to compete. There will also be one male and female shadow chosen to cover for any injuries, and these players will be expected to play for the Mens/Womens team should they not be required as shadows. We will also take one person as team manager.

Womens: We will select a squad of up to 15 members, and a final team of up to 14. The person who misses out on a spot will be invited to come away as team manager.

We invite everyone to come and trial, regardless of whether you think you are good enough or not. Trial Dates will be on Tuesday June 30th and Thursday July 2nd, 5-7pm at the hockey pitch. We understand that some people may be away for the holidays. If you are one of these people, please reply to this email and we will come and assess you during the next three weeks at Tuesday night training, to ensure no-one misses out on trialling.

Melbourne Uni Sport has two types packages that they are offering regarding flights and accommodation. The accommodation in 2007 was absolutely top notch and about fifteen feet away from all the social activities, flights can be purchased separately should you wish to fly on frequent flyer points or as some people do take a road trip up. More info will come through on this later down the track.

After trials we will send emails out to those who are selected. Should places be not accepted they will be offered to the next in line. Upon being selected, you will be required to register online. AUS has changed the system to stop people signing up for 20 different teams, and you are required to pay your $150 registration fee upon registration. This was previously paid to MUS. Registration closes on 21/08/09 but we would require everyone to sign up immediately after selection to confirm a spot in the team.
