Welcome to Touch UM 2010!
Welcome 2010 Members!
2010 is set to be an exciting year for Touch UM with many fun sporting and social events being set up for the year. Below is some general information about different areas of the club:
Training:
Currently, training will be held on Thursday nights from 5pm-7pm on the Melbourne University Synthetic Hockey Pitch. Training will continue on Thursdays until the end of March then the dominant training night will become Tuesday's from 5pm - 7pm. Training starts TONIGHT so get on down and give it a shot.
Tournaments:
Touch UM has a few large tournaments throughout the year.
Sale Knockout: First up for the year is the Victorian State Champs held in Sale for the weekend of 28/29 March. This is a great tournament not only for our more experienced players but also for our beginners to have a go in the social comp and get some experience playing some games. It is a fantastic weekend away and we need to start getting interest immediately so if you would like to come along and play, please reply to this email and let us know. There will be another email with more information coming out shortly.
Australian Uni Games: Unigames will be held in Perth this year during the second semester break. Trials and training will start in early May so have a think about if you want to be involved. More on that to come later.
Merchandise:
Touch UM also has a range of merchandise. We have trainings singlets, playing shorts, hoodies (the ones with the wings on the back) and playing tops all on offer.
There is an order coming in soon for those of you who missed out on shorts and singlets during sign up but we sell merchandise all year round.

Social Events:
Touch UM prides itself of its social atmosphere and as such has a few social events planned for the near future.
Ensure you join our facebook group (or click the Facebook logo to the right) to get the latest on social events taking place. You can download the Touch UM social calendar for the year by clicking here.

Sale Knockout GET EXCITED
Much more importantly, the Sale Knockout is happening again this year. For those who have just joined the club, you may not have heard, but Sale is a brilliant weekend out in a small country town involving two days of touch mediated by two nights of off-field frivolity. Basically, we all head down Friday afternoon, party Friday night (please note: Touch UM would greatly appreciate it if people refrained from being arrested this year!), play mens and womens on Saturday (in varying states of brilliance depending on how hard the partying was), head out for a squad dinner Saturday night before a *ahem* quiet night in, play mixed on Sunday, win lots of prize money for being awesome, drive home in very short stints to ensure we all make it back safely.
Just to stress, everyone plays either mens or womens on the Saturday and then everyone plays mixed on the Sunday. Last year we had about fifty members play and we would love to see those numbers again, however team lists have to be in very very soon so we need to know if you are interested in coming along immediately. Information is:
When: Head up Friday 26th March, return home Sunday 28th March
What: Sale knockout
Costs: TBC but probably in the vicinity of $120 (this covers two night's accommodation, two days of playing touch, unpurchasable memories and a whole lot of friends for life). You will also need some extra cashola in case you decide to eat anything and for any alcohol you may wish to consume. We will organise car pooling up there so if you have a car and have space in it put that in your reply email but we will be sorting that all out much closer to the date. For now we really want to know if you are coming!
Last year we had quite a few people pull out on us so we are asking for a deposit of $30 now so we can confirm your spot in the team. That way we know people are actually serious about coming along.

Welcome BBQ
Well Touchum's it's that time of year when our social calendar begins to pick up again, and what better way to start than with a good old barbeque?
After training on Thursday the 11th of March Touch UM will be hosting a BBQ just near the hockey pitch. Sausages, softdrinks, and if you remember your Touch UM keyring even a beer! From here we'll move to our local, Naughton's, for a few drinks and see where the night takes us!

Sign Up for 2010!
Touch UM would like to invite you down to our sign up day tomorrow! We will have a table at the Concrete Lawns at Melbourne Uni from 11am - 3pm. Membership this year is $25 for MU students and $30 for everyone else and includes a training singlet and a showbag, as well as covering training for the whole year.
If you are already signed up feel free to come down anytime between those times and convince everyone else to come and join too.
